Why use postcards or not email or social media?
Why do you have different utensils? Why do you have a fork and knife and a spoon? There’s no single solution to marketing, rather different tools for different jobs. Harvard business school did a study that it takes seven to 11 touches to get a customer to recognize your brand. Social media may be one, email another, and direct marketing a third. Marketing touches have different value, social media posts or an email might get easily forgotten where a direct mail piece might get held onto, touched, taped to the fridge, put in a drawer, or whatever. Direct mail is a valuable touch, but it should be always used with other marketing channels that you're currently having success with.
